Swing Wide the "Double Doors"

For over a decade the word, "double" has had spiritual significance for me. Some years it seemed like "double trouble" was the primary theme of our lives and in other seasons we saw "double blessing."

Recently, I heard someone use the phrase, "double doors of favor." My spiritual ears perked up and I've been ruminating on that. As I contemplated the phrase more and more, I felt an "unction" to paint.
The painting below is a result. It feels very much to me a prophetic painting. I believe that God uses creative people in creative ways to give forth a message. One way I look at a prophetic painting is this: the creative representation of a message reverberating within me that I want to share.

At one point in painting this, I faced a challenge and finally realized I had gotten off track. I was trying to incorporate what I was seeing with natural eyes rather than painting what needed to come forth. Wow! There's a message in that! Are you looking only with your natural eyes? Are your feelings the fruit of only what you see right in front of you?

I wiped away a portion of the painting and recalibrated. In other words, I needed to adjust my sight and stop looking around for what I thought made sense. You see, I had decided to paint a lamb in this painting. But it just wasn't working. Finally, I decided to wipe it away and just paint from a place of surrender rather than control. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with control; I actually quite LIKE control. But when I first began this painting, it was with complete freedom and my decision to "put a lamb on it" was not coming from the heart but my head. Maybe the lamb is for another painting. I rather believe it is. But it was not for this one.

Once I began putting the shapes of the doors or portals in the background, the whole idea quickly came together. Not the painting of it but the idea of it.
There is symbolism here and I will share a bit with you but I would love for you to find your unique symbols as well.
The woman: Is she a bride?
The "double" doorways: Do they lead to separate halls? Or do they both lead to the same place?
The crowd in one doorway: Onlookers or witnesses?
The scarlet color behind the woman: What does it appear to be to you?
The pattern on the woman's dress: I'll tell you about this one. Those shapes are symbolic of a "light heart, of joy!, of freedom. The "leaf" pattern speaks of fallen leaves in the autumn kicked up by a gust of wind. The fallen leaves are often brown and dry - no life left in them. But if the wind blows, they stir! What delight to see "dead things come to life again!" All hope is not lost when the wind blows life! Jesus said, "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit" (John 3:8 NJKV).

In this mixed media piece, I hope you sense a story and feel hope rising within you, too, that "double doors" of favor, opportunity, blessing, anointing, glory are about to swing wide!

  1. What a beautiful meaning to the painting. I saw all the detail but your message makes it even more intriguing. I see a bride and prophetically the church bride of our Christ. I bought these as cards to give as a special note to a new bride and groom. Thank you for your beautiful abilities used for our Lord Jesus. It has blessed me for many years, dear friend!
